Inspiration Pillow

Inspiration #1
I was browsing some of the new 2010 WDW pins as noticed a really cute one that was Mickey shaped with heart pattern all over it and what looked like a white ruffle. My first thought was what a project for the sewing forum!
So I started making a duplicate.

Inspiration #2
Our recent online crop, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", animal themed. I could match the pillow to that and use animal print fabric.

Inspiration #3
On my trip to JoAnn's, I found the perfect fabric! Valentines hearts made out of animals prints!

Inspirations Done! I had my project and wanted to share it with you!!!
(note: it can be made out of any print )

Here are your supplies:

1/2 yard of cotton or soft fabric
1 1/2 yards of pre-gathered lace or eyelet
Fiberfil
Matching thread
Scissors
Hand sewing needle
Sewing machine (optional, but makes the job easier)
Mickey Head pattern - You can make your own, or PM me and I will send you the pattern, I made it on my Cricut.

Step # 1
Cut out 2 pillow pieces from the fabric. I used only half the pattern to make sure both sides would be equal in size.

Step # 2
Pin the lace to the right side of one piece of the fabric and sew around it. Make sure the lace edge is towards the middle of piece. You may need to pivot (make a sharp corner) in the corners for the lace to come out right. It doesn't have to be perfect, this is just to attach the lace.

Step # 3
Place the other piece of the pillow on top of the lace piece. Pin the entire way around, but make sure to leave a 3-4 inch opening for turning and stuffing.

Step # 4
Sew around the entire pillow (1/4" seam) starting at the opening and ending at the other end of the opening. Be sure to pivot at the corners for a nice sharp edge.

Step # 5
After sewing, clip into each corner to almost the stitch line. You may also want to use pinking shears around the entire pillow to help keep the curve look right.

Step # 6
Starting at the opening, turn the pillow right side out.

Step # 7
Start stuffing. I found it easier to start with the ears and then work my way down. Stuff it as soft or as firm as you wish.

Step # 8
Once the entire pillow is stuffed to your liking, the opening needs to be sewn shut. You may sew it by machine, or by hand, just make sure that you fold the seam allowance in. I sewed mine by hand using a latter stitch. Placing a pin at the opening may help with this step.

Once Step # 8 is done, beat the pillow out (just hit it a couple of times against your leg). This helps to even out the fiberfill after working on the pillow.

You are now done and have you own custom Mickey Pillow!

Here are some other options you may want to try:
Use pink fleece and make a crown from felt and stitch at the top for a princess themed.
Use any fleece or fabric in your favorite print or pattern to match your own style!

Have fun and
Happy Stitching!!!!

That is very cute Stephanie. If I can ever get my machine to work correctly I would give that a try.
