Okay I'll share!

I often give the Kitchen over to the kids because they love it so much!

One of the most recent favs is the apple Crisp they made together.
Tristan went online and found a recipe and Logan and He put the whole thing together!

It was a basic Apple Crisp recipe found online....

We usually do a lot of baking together - Zucchini Breads and Banana Bread are a favorite here.

I am looking forward to making Lumpia with them this week.

I'll share that recipe because its a quick, easy, off the brain one!

1-2 pounds of ground pork
1 medium whole onion
4 carrots
1 package of Lumpia wrappers or Egg roll wrappers

Chop the carrots & onions pretty finely
(I use my food chopper- my friend uses her processor)
mix into the meat with some pepper and salt (to taste)

Put a few tablespoons into the wrapper then roll it up ( I fold the ends in as well)
Fry in Oil until browned evenly on all sides about 5 minutes ( I use enough oil so they are pretty much submerged)

that's it - hope you enjoy them like we do!

Ok, here is something that I got the idea from an old neighbor and bascially make up as I go along when I make it (which, by the way, I make TWO every year for my birthday to bring in to work... and they don't make it to 5pm!!)

Homemade Ice Cream Cake:

24 (2 boxes) Ice Cream Sandwich bars
9x13 pan (I prefer to use the foil throw-aways so there is less to clean up!)
1 tub of Cool Whip
Chocolate Syrup and/or Caramel (or Butterscotch... or whatever you like!)
Sprinkles/mini M&M's/mini Chocolate Chips/peanuts or any other Sundae topping you like!

Layer bottom pan with 11-12 ice cream sandwiches (you can usually fit 4 on each side of the pan - 8 total - with 1 or 2 down the middle)

Spread 1/2 of the Cool whip on top covering all of the sandwiches

Add a layer Choclate Syrup (or whichever liquid you've chosen!)

Sprinkle with "candy" topping

Repeat another layer of Ice Cream Sandwiches. It will be easier to fit all 12 on this layer.

Repeat Cool Whip layer with remaining Cool Whip.

Spread Syrup in a neat pattern (Hershey's syrup helps with this!)

Sprinkle more "Candy" on top!

Cover with Saran Wrap or foil and put in freezer to help set Cool Whip (or, if you make them in July like me, to help re-set the Ice Cream Sandwiches!)

What I usually do is make 2 cakes. One has a layer of Chocolate Syrup with Mini M&M's, and the other uses Caramel (squeeze bottles rock!) with mini Chocolate chips. They go over well with my co-workers and a few of them have used the receipe for their kids birthdays, so it should go well for your kids too!

Enjoy!!!

So I first made this recipe in 2nd grade at school. We did a whole unit on apples and made an apple shaped cookbook and all the recipes were apple themed. It has since become a family favorite and I have made it with groups of kids as well.

Apple Pizza

Ingredients

10 pack canned Buttermilk biscuits
1 cup grated mozzarella cheese or 10 slice American Cheese
5 apples peeled (approx. depending on size)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp flour
butter or margarine (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Measure flour, sugar, cinnamon, and put all into a bowl. Mix well.

Roll biscuits flat and place onto greased baking sheet

Cut apples into thin slices, arrange on biscuits

Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, flour mix

Put pat of butter on top if you chose to

Sprinkle with cheese or put slice of cheese on top

Bake for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees until biscuits are lightly brown and cheese is melted

Ok, I have a recipe, but I don't know if anyone would be interested in it. Since I'm single and don't have any children, I reach into my own childhood for inspiration.

My favorite memory of working in the kitchen was the annual job on making Faustnachts.

I would help my grandmother mix the dough and knead, and wait for it raise and then knead it out, and wait for it to raise again, and then cut it and wait for it to raise again! Then the fun job on frying them up. A warm faustnacht with powdered sugar is a memory that takes me back every year.

She used to make anywhere from 15-30 DOZEN of faustnacht each year and sell them for $2.00 a dozen. (but then that was 19XX!) (date deleted to protect the innocent!)

If anyone would like me to post the recipe, I can.

Thanks!!!!

Go ahead and post it.

I find it ironic as I contemplated posting my Nana's faschnacht recipe for this contest. As I have a similar memory but making them with my parents but sometimes my grandparents and I actually just helped my parents make some the last two weekends.

You know, the thing I make most often with my kids is Toll House cookies. But the recipe isn't really in the public domain. We use the recipe on the bag of the Nestle Morsles.

It's so special to me because it's about the only thing I would ever cook with my dad. It was certainly the first thing he actively taught me to make. Although I am so glad to have replaced my spoon and spatula with a scoop for dropping the cookies. That was always the hardest part for me!

I know I really didn't make anything special with April but I know she did help bake with her grandmother the same as I did. Our favorite recipe was for Chiffon Cake because you had to sift the flour and make a well in the middle for the egg yolks. It also involved whipping egg whites just right, folding them intot he batter and using a special square tube pan. I'll find that recipe and pan and post it tomorrow.

Anyone else have a memory and recipe they can share?
